Guided Reading and Letter of the Day

Guided Reading
We started guided reading today.  Miss Heitmann will be coming to our classroom for 35 minutes each day to meet with reading groups also.  Your child will be meeting with either Miss Heitmann or myself throughout the week.  Students will be working in small groups and reading leveled books.  Students are very excited and did very well working independently at centers while other students were meeting in small groups.  Students are really enjoying the integration of I-pads into our literacy centers.

You can support what we are doing at school by continuing to practice and review sight words.  The sight words are important for literacy development.  When you are reading books at home, have your child look for sight words in stories.  Please ask your child to retell the stories they are reading to you or that you have read to them.  Discuss the characters and setting in the stories.

Letter of the Day
We have started our 3rd Rotation of the alphabet.  Students are working on brainstorming words independently and sound spelling these words.  Students are being expected to write these words in sentences.  We will complete the "Letter of the Day" worksheet as a whole group for the first week.  The following week students will be completing the worksheet more independently.  Some students will be focusing more on sentence writing, while other students may still focusing on sound spelling words independently.  I will level the activity to best meet your child's needs.
